I saw something blur by
It was high in the sky
And quite an amazing show
As I stood on the shore far below.
It was a bright white bird with glowing wings
The fastest seagull I’ve ever seen.
He soared then plunged again and again
Like he was in a race he just had to win.
Blazed through the air
Faster than other gulls would dare.
I shouted up as he flew into view,
“Jonathan? Is that you?”
I just stood there and could barely blink
When he nodded his head and gave me a wink
I waved as he flew
And yelled, “Nice to meet you!”
He dipped a wing as if to say, “Same to you!” as he flew away.
And I bet I’ll never forget who I met that day!

This poem is a tribute to the book “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” and its main character. It’s one of my favorite books. I read it for the first time as a teenager and it had a major positive affect on my life regarding feeling different and choosing my own way in life, and how that is ok.
